Due to severe interference by human and wild life such as industrial fishing, the turtle egg poaching and selling the products made of\u00a0turtle shell, turtle species are in danger. There are some Sea Turtle Conservation Projects which are working for preserving the amazing biodiversity of Costa Rica by protecting the nests of sea turtles as well as by releasing turtle hatchlings.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Northwest Region:<\/h3>\n<h4>ASVO\u00a0Buenavista Beach:<\/h4>\n<p>ASVO (Association of Volunteers for service in protected areas) is a non-profit, self-managed and\u00a0a non-governmental organization (NGO).\u00a0It is also an intensive nesting beach and ASVO can\u00a0observe over 300 nesting activities each season, from 3 out of 4 species of sea turtle that frequent the area. Its conservation programs are based in the southern pacific region of the country, known as the Osa Peninsula. This area is popular for amazing biodiversity and pristine wilderness. For 11 years it is offering sea turtle conservation and volunteering program. In Osa Peninsula, in the southern beaches you will find two species of nesting turtles-\u00a0Green Sea Turtle and\u00a0Olive Ridley. Occasionally Leatherback sea turtles and Hawksbill sea turtles are also found. This turtle protection conservation has the objectives to establish funds so that researches on turtles and other programs like chalking out effective systems for cleaning and scrutiny can goes on. It is also working on recover the natural eco system by growing more plantation. It has been protecting the turtle nests each year since 1991. Its mission is to protect the sea turtles and it encourages people to work as a volunteer for fulfilling this mission. It is located on a remote beach of Caribbean, Costa Rica. From the Pacuare River mouth this project is just 1 km north side. 10km of coastline is covered by this project and its surface is about 800 hectares area. This conservation and protection focus on the endangered the green and leatherback turtles which come for nesting in this area and they come in large group.<\/p>\n<p>latortugafeliz@gmail.com<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.latortugafeliz.com\">http:\/\/www.latortugafeliz.com<\/a><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"mainnb mainnb1\">LAST (Latin American Sea Turtles):<\/h4>\n<div class=\"mainnb mainnb1\">It is a Costa Rican group working for making a change in sea turtle conservation. It works with local assistants with unparalleled experience in sea turtle research and conservation.<\/div>\n<p><strong>Cahuita nesting beach project:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With its long coastline (about 12 km), Cahuita National Park is considered as the main spot for nesting for the\u00a0Hawksbill turtles and also for the Green turtle and Leatherback turtle. This park also include the beach but due to illegal poaching and hunting by villagers, destruction of coral reefs through sedimentation, tree logging and the rising sea levels, sea turtles and their nests are threatened. During the nesting season, LAST monitors and works for data collection and also for relocating nests at high risk into the areas which are safer. It has the goal to make a strategy that will help identifying the real condition of the sea turtle and also to make a management that will work for more effective sea turtle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pacuare Program:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In Costa Rica, this project is on a remote beach of Caribbean. From the Pacuare river mouth, this project is just 2km north side. This location is also famous as a nesting site for many\u00a0Leatherback, Hawksbill and Green sea turtles that come ashore to lay their eggs. It is dedicated to protect sea turtles as well as their eggs. A viable\u00a0alternative economy for\u00a0poaching in the small Caribbean community of Parismina.\u00a0Volunteers are essential to the success of the project. In the Western Hemisphere, Tortuguero is the place that hosts largest green turtle rookery. It is also a popular nesting area for the leatherback turtles and hawksbill turtles.
